THE SOUND CELLAR
STUDIO POLICY
Please review this Studio Policy as it sets out the rules that our studio has established to make the learning
experience beneficial for all students. These rules are part of the contract you have with our studio. While we know
that unexpected events may arise that necessitate an exception to these rules, we reserve the right to determine
when to grant any such exception.
PAYMENT POLICY.
To guarantee your enrolment, tuition is due fourteen (14) days prior to the start of the semester.
If payment is not made fourteen (14) days in advance of the start of the semester, the student’s reservation for the
semester may be passed on to someone from the waiting list. Payment is made in full for each semester (8 or 10
sessions). If payment in full is not possible, please reach out to hello@soundcellar.ca to discuss possible options.
MAKE-UP LESSONS.
The studio does not give credits or refunds for lessons missed by a student. If a student
provides at least 48 hours advance notice of an expected absence, then the studio may provide make-up lessons if
a time slot is available. The offering of a make-up lesson will be within the discretion of the instructor.
TEACHER ABSENCE.
Illness or other emergencies may arise which prevent the teacher from offering a lesson at a
scheduled time. If the teacher is unable to provide a scheduled lesson due to illness or other reasons, make-up
lessons will be scheduled at a time when the student and teacher are available. No refunds will be provided if a
make-up lesson cannot be scheduled.
MUSIC INSTRUCTION MATERIALS.
If applicable, the studio provides all music instruction materials that each student
will be using during the semester. The cost of the music instruction materials are covered by a one-time music
instruction materials fee that is charged at the beginning of the semester. The music instruction
materials fee will be part of the semester’s tuition payment.
LESSON TERMINATION.
If a student decides to discontinue taking lessons from the studio, the studio requests at
least one-month advance notice. Depending upon the reason for the termination, the studio may refund pre-paid
lessons at its discretion.
The studio reserves the right to terminate the contract with the student/parent if the student has excessive
absences or if the teacher determines that the student is not cooperating in his or her music studies. Prior to any
decision to terminate, the teacher will meet with the parents to discuss the situation. Refunds for pre-paid lessons
will be provided at the discretion of the studio.
PUNCTUALITY.
Please have the student arrive at least five minutes prior to the start of the lesson so that the
student is ready when the lesson time begins. A tardy student will be given only the time remaining in the student’s
scheduled lesson period. Students should be quiet while in the waiting area so as not to disturb other students.
Students should bring all required books and materials to each lesson. Parents should pick students up as soon as
the lesson is over to avoid overcrowding.
FOOD AND DRINK.
Food and drink are not permitted in the studio (water is ok). If a snack break is needed, the
waiting room area may be used. Students are also prohibited from chewing gum while in the studio.
PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS.
Students are expected to practice as outlined by their instructor. Parents should ensure
that the student is given a quiet practice area. Parents should monitor practices and ensure that all of the
assignments given to the student are completed.
OFFICE HOURS.
If a parent wishes to meet with the teacher to discuss the student’s progress, please email
hello@soundcellar.ca to set up an appointment with the teacher. The studio requests that appointments be made
ahead of time in order not to disrupt lessons that may be in progress at the studio.
PARENT ATTENDANCE AT LESSONS.
The studio encourages parents to attend and quietly observe lessons for their
children. The studio does reserve the right to exclude a parent if the teacher determines that the parent’s presence
is disturbing the child or impeding his or her progress.
ACCESS.
The studio is in a high traffic business area. We recommend that parents accompany their children to and
from the studio. The studio is not responsible for any injuries or accidents outside of the studio area.
